Futures

Posted by Sarah  Published in Other Articles, Prediction, Quote of the Day, TNF Files

When you think of the word “future” what do you think of? Do you think of careers and jobs you may have later in life? Your children’s wedding days? Goals you have set for yourself? That’s all well and good….for the NEARBY future. What about for the long term future? Do you see wars or peace? Do you see more inventions? What types? Do you see greater societies (economically speaking) or depression?

No matter what the (long-term) future turns out to be, it will be what the majority thinks it will be, even now. If a great number of people envision peace, peace there will be. Inventions are already being created in the minds of the young generation through their imaginations. If economic trimuph is strived for by all, then it will be achieved.

John M. Richardson JR said:

When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: Those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

The future depends on us and our choices. We will recieve the consequences, good or bad, of our actions and we must be ready to accept them.

TNF Files: The True Story of Calister F. Wells and His Lost Coin Collection

Posted by Rika  Published in TNF Files

No joke. This was actually a school assignment Calister wrote in third person as an autobiography using his vocab words.

It’s all true, by the way.

Calister F. Wells was TheNearbyFuture.com’s resident numismatist. He loved coins and writing, so he wrote about coins all the time. He wrote about his ostentatious (and quite expensive) coin collection and his equally impressive gun collection. Calister F. Wells was a patriot, and believed that the right to bear arms was just as palpable of a law as freedom of speech. His coin collection kept the violent, ogre-like feelings from bubbling up, but he could never oust his need to fire guns at household targets. Watch out houseplants.

Rika, the administrator on ThenearbyFuture.com, (who only hired him out of nepotism) would always obtrude on his shooting practice with a pallid face and irrelevent statements like, “there are no guns allowed in this office!” or “watch where you’re shooting!” or “if you hit another pidgeon I swear…”. He would pacify her by handing her the gun he happened to be using as a obeisance gesture. “Fine, you win, you can take my gun,” he’d say, only to pull out another one after she’d leave.

In the dark structure he called his home, his bearskin run was a pall for his coin collection: the collection was embedded into the floor. Paean tunes would echo around his house whenever he collected another rare coin or a new gun.

One day, he was so excited about his new Jericho 941 semi-automatic pistol, he decided that a test run was in order. He began by shooting vases, dictionaries, and anything he could find, not in the mood to go to the shooting range or ThenearbyFuture.com’s office. He began oscillating the gun, fascinated by the light glinting off the steel. He didn’t realize the safety wasn’t on, and the gun accidentally fired. He had shot the floor. More specifically, his bearskin rug. More specifically, his coin collection.

The entire staff of TNF.com was invited to join in on the obsequy honoring his prized collection.

“Let’s go, Calister,” Rika said after the collection had been buried and sung to, “you owe me an article about the Somalian pirates smuggling opiates out of the country.”

The moral of this story? Never aim a gun at something you don’t want destroyed.
