High school reunions, time capsules and Facebook are all great at reminding us how much we’ve changed over the years, and how our “when I grow up I want to be…” statements have changed. Several times.
It’s a magical moment when you uncover a photo, video, memory or person from your past that meant a lot to you, but you’ve forgotten about. Like that green-ish cheese in the back of your fridge. But more pleasant.
Leave a little metaphorical cheese in the back of your fridge right now!
- So right now, type up a little message to yourself. Write about your best friend. Write about your spouse. Chop up all your memories, pick the ripest ones, and boil it all into a packed paragraph.
- Add some pictures. Not just the ones you posed for, but those unique candid shots your boyfriend/girlfriend took of you while you were laughing that one time.
- Predict where you’ll be a year from now. Then predict where you’ll be in five years. Ten. Twenty.
Seal your letter, and tape your letter to the back of your fridge. When you reach back there five years from now to remove a long-expired container of green beans, you’ll find it and chow down on the delicious reality of moments forgotten.
