On July 4th family, friends, and relatives will be celebrating the United State’s independence from Britain, although we all just like cooking hot dogs on the grill, maybe getting a nice tan in the sun, and watching the fireworks at night. This was also the day when Continential Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence.
But you don’t want to read an article on the history of the United States, so how about I give some interesting facts (or at least I think they’re interesting). This is all from http://www.history.com/content/fourthofjuly/did-you-know and http://www.wisebread.com/some-4th-of-july-numbers
- In July 1776, 2.5 million people were living in the independent nation
- In July 2008, 304 million people were living in the US
- Potato salad and potato chips are the most common foods found when barbequing on this day
- On 4th: 150 million hot dogs are eaten
- Week leading up to 4th: 700 million pounds of chicken
- Week leading up to 4th: 190 million pounds of red meat or pork
- 87% of Americans have a grill outside
- 41 million people spend this day at other people’s houses
- 900 million dollars spent on fireworks in 2007
- 9,200 people were injured by fireworks in 2006
- 11 places with the name “independence” in them in the United States
This is very random, but I wonder why some cities (like ours) celebrates the Fourth of July on the third? Well I hope everyone has a grea 4th of July. Stay safe!
