Hybrid cars

Posted by Hope  Published in Cars

The only real big difference between normal cars and hybrid cars is that hybrid cars have a special system that captures braking energy, which is then stored in an onboard battery.

People are now picking hybrids because hybrids are the most gasoline efficient of all cars, they typically get 48 to 60 mpg. That’s great, but it’s only about 20% to 35% better than a fuel efficient gasoline powered vehicle such as the Honda Civic in which gets 36 mpg. When you compare prices, however, hybrids cost from $19,000 to $25,000 and gas saver cars cost $14,000 to $17,000.

Not only is the hybrid cars fuel efficient, it is also “green” for the environment, and we all know this website is definitely pro-environment. But hybrid cars offer more than just great fuel economy, they offer many green advantages as well. Where pollution is the worst (large cities), it produces smaller emissions when you’re in those stop-and-go traffic jams.

Applaud Japanese companies because the two hybrid cars that are the most popular are the Honda Insight and the Toyota Prius. Come on, U.S., catch up!

How to Survive The End of the World (Coming Soon!)

Posted by Calister F. Wells  Published in Nearby Updates and Info

Writers can be lazy too, right? Well that’s exactly what I’m being right now. I’m in the middle of writing our guide to the end of the world which should be out as soon as I can find an interesting opening sentence, which can be translated as Calister-is-procrastinating again. What is the guide that I [...]

Future and Careers

Posted by Ari  Published in Other Articles

Jobs are ever changing pathways to our goals. You may not be where you want to be right now, but that’s ok. It’s not like we’re super humans or anything. Just doing your research and finding the type of job that will fare best in the future may help your goal come along faster, though! [...]

The Amazing Update on the World

Posted by Calister F. Wells  Published in Nearby Updates and Info

This is my amazing update on the world- otherwise translated as some interesting thoughts about the world by moi. There’s a lot of devastating news, and I think that it should be discussed a little more optimistically! On the topic of being optimistic, we’ve been a little too calm on the subject of global warming. [...]

It’s elementary human rights, Watson!

Posted by Rika  Published in Editorials, Other Articles

Every day we hear about the suffering of people in places like Myanmar and Darfur. Almost all the time the issue of human rights come up. If human rights are so elementary, so basic, then why haven’t we straightened it out after all these years?

To understand that, we must look at the most elementary place in all of our lives.

School.

For twelve years of our lives, (and often times more than that) we sit in classrooms and listen to instructors. Debates fuel over our rights in school, the rights of the instructors, and the rights of what gets shown in classroom- basically, everything. Each side argues relentlessly on every issue, from cafeteria foods up to school calendars.

Do you think it’s funny?

Posted by Rika  Published in Other Articles

Normally I’m a pretty levelheaded person, looking at debates, analyzing them, finding information, and presenting it without losing my temper, but this article is the one exception. To hear people so carelessly talk about cats like they aren’t worth anything, and are just here to be killed and hurt so mercilessly, that just pushed me to the edge.

If you are one of these coldhearted people who take their problems out on animals, I’d like you to put yourself in their shoes. What if someone kicked you? I don’t think you’d find that a laughing matter at all.

Philosophy of the Week VII

Posted by Socrates  Published in Uncategorized

So many lines we’ve never heard, but when have we truly opened our ears? Calister’s Random Afternote It’s not enough to just to open our ears, but we also have to act. For example, if a country is thinking of attacking another country (for some random, usually unfathomable reason) then everyone needs to listen to [...]

Our world’s in trouble… now what?

Posted by Rika  Published in Environment

What is wrong with our planet? Being America, it’s easy to do what we do best: (no, not eating fast food, although we do that too) import stuff from other countries. We import everything from food to dinky little party favors to food. A good question to ask is what happens when there is a [...]

Why you should get a mutt

Posted by Hope  Published in Other Articles

I was watching Oprah (yes, I know, people think she is overrated) but I like her a lot. Lisa Ling was doing a report on dogs and puppy mills and how you should buy a mixed breed dog and not to buy them from pet stores. Did you know that many pet stores get their [...]
